Howdy melodic rockers,

We’re still struggeling to get concrete details (tracking number for example) of two of the most requested titles – that’s the new Great White CD and the repressing of the Don Barnes re-issue.

I can’t give you serious infos from the suppliers are still shacky, the last what I’s ve heard that there’s chance that we’ll get both in towards the end of next week. The whole thing is needless to comment, but this affair is even more trickier as we’ll close for our vacations from August, the 4^th until the 20^th, so no idea if we’ll get them in time to ship before our vacations.

Australian Adam Barclay, mastermind, guitar player and voice of THAT ROCK GUY is a busy man literally living on the road. Being part of many bands and doing sessions allover the world, he finally delivers his solo debut. Stylistically deeply rooted in the very vein of classic BON JOVI, WHITESNAKE or DEF LEPPARD, the protagonists easily manage to grab the listener's attention. "Bring On The Night" or the slow "Without You" takes you back to the glory days of Melodic Rock when the aforementioned bands were permanently featured on the radio. But THAT ROCK GUY is also able to incorporate sleazy sounds like in "Your Dreams Are Keeping Us Together" or to touch classic rock grounds with a little bit of KISS-flavor like in "Land Of The Rising Sun". The anthem "Superstar" with its catchy chorus is a strong argument, too.

GREAT WHITE - Full Circle + DVD

For fans of that ‘traditional’ Great White sound the great news is that ‘Full Circle’ is sonically very much what you might hope from the veteran L.A. rockers. It’s been a long 5 years since ‘Elation’ and while that first Terry Illous-fronted release had its moments and stuck to the established sound rather faithfully ‘Full Circle’ does all of that and more. The songs here have dirtier blues rock grooves, bigger hooks, more memorable lyrics, even flightier solos, and whilst there was nothing wrong with "Elation’s" production by Lardie and Kendall, bringing on-board big name producer Michael Wagener really has tipped the balance.To keep it short - this is a way cool album… Seriously good…

ALICE COOPER - Paranormal (digi pack, ltd. edition 2 CD set)

ALICE COOPER reunited with legendary producer Bob Ezrin and his old bandmates from the early seventies on certain songs. What can go wrong here? Right! Nothing! „Paranormal“ is the best album of the shock rock pioneer in decades. Other guests are Billy Gibbons (g, ZZ TOP) and Larry Mullen jr. (d, U2). It’s not only the single „Paranoiac Personality“ or the rocking „Dynamite Road“ that shine like diamonds but it’s quite a balanced record all over the place. ALICE COOPER isn’t done yet - not at all!

RIAN - Out Of The Darkness

RIAN is melodic rock from Sweden. It’s a promising three-piece that teamed up with producer Daniel Flores (THE MURDR OF MY SWEET, FIND ME) and puts out a remarkable debut record in the vein of classic BON JOVI, WINGER, GIANT or VAN HALEN to name just a few artists. Eleven songs tracks full of melody but also with a good punch. From („Hide Away“) to power ballad („Remember“), „Out Of The Darkness“ has it all!

SOUL SECRET - Babel

Italian outfit SOUL SECRET and their progressive but highly melodic sounds take you by storm easily. „Babel“ is a concept album about love and religion covering heavy sounds as well as traditional and pretty playful progressive rock. Lino Di Pietrantonio on vocals who definitely hits the spot is a brillant choice. He’s pretty versatile and acts as some kind of storyteller throughout the record. Music to enjoy, music to lean back, music that constantly offers new facets and details.

MASTERPLAN - PumpKings (ltd. edition digi pack)

Roland Grapow, MASTERPLAN mastermind and guitarrist, has been in HELLOWEEN a long time. Ten songs of that era, all written by him, are to be found on „PumpKings“, all re-recorded and re-arranged and at least slightly different than the original. Probably not a very creative idea but thanks to Rick Altzis amazing vocals, the result is really good. Special highlights are „Escalation 666“, „The Dark Ride“ and „The Time Of The Oath“.

NEW RELEASES IN STOCK!

SNOW - At Last (2 CDs)

In the early eighties, SNOW around the Cavazo-brothers Carlos (g) and Tony (b) have been one of the hottest bands of the hardrock circuit of Los Angeles. “At Last“ might not have the best sound but the songwriting quality and the raw energy, with which they are played, are remarkable without a doubt. Vocalist Doug Ellison has got that certain nonchalance which makes songs like „Steal A Kiss“, „Stop The Music“ or „Crack The Whip“ true highlights. The songs still shine in 2017.

MR: BIG - Defying Gravity + DVD (ltd. edition digi pack)

Back to the roots you can call the approach on MR.BIG's ninth studio album. The American band teamed up again with producer Kevin Elson who already worked on the first three legendary records. The result is a comparatively hard and rough sound which doesn't lack the melodies the band became famous for back in the day. And do we really have to talk about the magic voice of Mister Eric Martin? Of course not…

VAN ARX - Stand Together For Rock And Roll

VAN ARX appear to be a Swiss cover band that graduated to doing their own material. While their appearance is a bit reminiscent of a “parody” band and their songs a bit on the simple side they seem to be decent enough and able to churn out sufficiently catchy material, in the vein of Kiss, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Ratt, etc, with a production that doesn’t belie any serious budgetary constraints. The Swiss band’s hearts clearly beat for the '80s glam rock / hair metal sub-genre. You can also see this when looking at their outfits. Van Arx feature three different lead vocalists, depending on the song. One sings with more, the other with less talent but at least the voices fit to the particular songs. Overall a fun album, nothing more and nothing less.
