Howdy melodic
rockers,
More or less just good things
to report as the Bad Reputation stuff (Alias, Jett Black, WWIII) got delivered
this week and we also received a few more copies of 2AM / Chris Irvine CDs.
Well, we still don’t have enough copies of this two titles as we could give away
bigger quantities – that’s way we have limited the purchae to two copies per
customer and don’t supply re-sellers until we get the repressing.
All exptectes newies for next
week are already in stock and ready to get ordered incl. some really great
titles like C.O.P., Pearls & Flames, Alicate, Kiss Of The Gypsy, Streetlight
Circus, Dead Daisies and the new version of the cracking Nestor debut.
Last not least – below you can
find a listing of rare titles from my own collection plus some cardboard sleeve
mini LP Cds. Prices are mentioned as well, I’m also willing to trade for
Japanese cardboard sleeve mini LP Cds and / or if you want to buy them – we can

“Enemy“, album number two of
the Swedes (ex-GRAND ILLUSION, DECOY), offers typical Scandinavian pompy melodic
rock / AOR. Best stuff for fans of ART OF ILLUSION, GRAND ILLUSION or WORK OF
ART. Brothers Peter (v) and Christian Sundell (d) as well as Ola af Trampe (g)
know what they are doing and totally deliver first class material for melodic
rock lovers. Well, hope they don’t need another seven years for their next
album!

PEARLS & FLAMES is the new
band of vocalist Markus Nordenberg (COASTLAND RIDE, ex LION’S SHARE). The Swede
is devoted to AOR and Westcoast sounds foremost and together with Tommy Denander
(g, RADIOACTIVE) they created a really strong record that will please fans of
e.g. ALLIANCE, MICHAEL THOMPSON, or STATE COWS. Timeless music with a few
TOTO-moments, too.

“Butterfly“ is the fourth
album of the band. Die Swedes are no newcomers anymore although until now they
flew under the radar and vocalist Jonas Erixon is an experienced songwriter (GIANT,
SKILLZ, SWEET OBLIVION), too. The title track is a fantastic and extremely
melodic and emotional song that sticks out but also the rest of the tracks are
mostly way above average. And they are able to rock like “Rise Once Again“
proves which is reminiscent of ECLIPSE.

KISS OF THE GYPSY are back!
Initially planned as some bonus tracks for a new TONY MITCHELL solo album.
Thirty years after the debut the time obviously has come for some new KISS OF
THE GYPSY material. Some ideas go back to the early nineties and the production,
too, seems to be pleasantly a bit old-school which is really positive, though.
There might be more stuff in the future…So, keep watching! Great hard rock for
fans of e.g. FREAK OF NATURE.

“Super Fine Sugar“ is simply
fun. Some high calibre guests like Jesper Binzer (v, D:A:D), Berton Averre (v,
THE KNACK) or Tony Harnell (v, ex-TNT) can be found here. ’Dirty Earth’ and
’Take Me To The River’ are just two of many strong compositions with versatile
arrangements and great joy of playing. Album number two of the Americans is full
of hard rock, some blues and a little bit of honky tonk. Timeless music with an
authentic production and a small portion of eye-twinkling lyrics.

NESTOR from Sweden easily
put the album of the years with just their debut. Eighties sound without any
compromises including a guest appearance by Samantha Fox (v)! Tracks like “On
The Run“, “Tomorrow“ or “1989“ would have been huge hits back in the day for
sure. Without question, record of the year 2021. An album like a travel in time.
And the production is huge… I mean really huge! The band has signed now to
Napalm Records and this new version adds 3 really good new tracks as a bonus.
Overall this seems to be not really fair to all buyers of the original first
version !

Of course, this
outfit is nothing but a project and has had way more former members than
actually records out but the classic hard rock sound, which profits from new
vocalist and bassist Glenn Hughes (ex DEEP PURPLE) big time, hits hard the
hearts of genre lovers. “Radiance“ offers ten strong songs. And Brian Tichy (d,
ex FOREIGNER, ex BILLY IDOL) adds to that a lot, too. This record has got balls
like you hear in “Shine On“ for instance.

Jett Black was an awesome Toronto based band
formed in 1983. They produced a 1984 cassette only release before heading into
the studio for their one off album “Night Flight", released in 1985 on the DBM
label. With 3 brothers in the line-up, they played a mix off melodic
rock and AOR with plenty pompy keys. To compare them with others, bands like
Hybrid Ice, Prism, Wrabit and Simon Chase comes to my mind. The album
also featured Jeff Jones (Red Rider) on bass, listed as a
"guest performer" because original bass player, Mike Greger, had left before the
album was completed. Bad Reputation records re-issue, digitally
remastered and first time ever on CD - phenomenal stuff for 80s AOR- and pomp
rock lovers !

ALIAS - Alias +4

Alias were the merger of personnel from two of Canada's best
melodic rock bands, namely Sheriff and Heart - two parts Sheriff meets three
parts Heart. At best, a virtual supergroup in the true AOR/melodic rock mould,
featuring the talented vocalist Freddy 'The Siren' Curci. On paper, this amalgam
promised much, on record it was put to the test and passed with flying colors.
Not only do they play the part but they also look the part, in true AOR fashion.
Of course we all remember the worldwide smash hit 'More Than Words Can Say', but
also we cannot forget the re-work of the Brett Walker classic 'Waiting For Love'
and the punchy rock of 'Standing In The Darkness'. Digitally remastered re-issue
from Bad Reputation records.

WORLD WAR III -

World War III was
formed in 1982 in Philadelphia and comprised of brothers Gary and Dan Hammer
plus enigmatic vocalist Tipa Sparrs (who later joined WHITEFOXX). Over the next
3 years World War III would also feature two drummers who would go on to
international success - Dean Davidson (BRITNY FOX , BLACKEYED SUSAN) and Johnny
Dee (BRITNY FOX ).Originally released in 1985 World War III was a huge success
in Europe and this CD re-issue also contains the extremely rare 1982 7" single.
This is the complete World War III collection and is very highly recommended to
all fans and collectors of 80s Melodic Metal into MALICE, ARMORED SAINT, KEEL
and cohorts. Bad Reputation re-issue.

Marenna is a project started in 2014 by songwriter and lead singer Rodrigo
Marenna, an experienced Brazilian musician who was part of many local bands.
After releasing a couple of singles Danish label Lionspride Music picked up this
Brazilain bunch and released the singles incl. the videos on the EP "My
Unconditional Faith". "No Regrets" (2017) was the first full album from Roger
Marenna and his bunch, followed by the Marenna / Meister album in 2020. His
fourth strike “Voyager” offers the pure side of Melodic Rock / AOR love from
start to finish. There's no tricks, no alternative or slightly experimental
tracks here, just true '80/'90s music with melodies galore. Recommended for
melodic rockers !
