AOR HEAVEN ::: N E W S L E T T E R ::: 23/02/2018

Howdy melodic rockers,

Well, the pain of the modern world has hit us within the last two days, cause not only our website was down due to server problems, also no conversation was possible through our regular e-mail address. I better don’t make any comment about this matter, cause the guys who knows me can imagine that Im pissed off in a big way (to keep it still calm!) !!

Anyway, due to this matters I don’t have that much informations from several suppliers if the expected releases for next week are on schedule.

Listen to our upcoming March 2018  release from JARI TIURA at www.metalheaven.net !

Have a great week

Georg & Monika

AOR HEAVEN RELEASES!

JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA - Age Of Discovery

A: 11 € B: 13 €

Falling (Edit)

Fear (Edit)

The End Of The Road (Edit)

JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA „Age Of Discovery“, the follow-up to the three IMPERA albums, is a fine selection of hard and classic rock with a great variety of vocalists. Among others you get Michael Sadler (SAGA), Nigel Bailey (THREE LIONS, BAILEY, LIFELINE), Göran Edman (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) or Nils Patrik Johansson (ASTRAL DOORS, LION’S SHARE). The Swedes, foremost Kihlberg and guitarist and co-producer Lars Criss (LION’S SHARE), made clever choices in picking the right voices for their songs. “Why Does She Care“, sung by Michael Sadler himself, is classic SAGA or “Just A Conversation“ with the mighty Göran Edman behind the mic delivers some great eighties feeling because of its poppy flavor. Apart from those highlights, “Age Of Discovery“ is totally free from fillers of any kind.

EXPECTED NEW RELEASES!

STREAMLINE - Streamline (digi pack)

A: 13€ B: 15,5 €

Diamond Dawn was an awesome Swedish AOR act that sadly disbanded after their debut CD five years ago. Most members are now back with STREAMLINE (exept singer Alexander Strandell, which startet ART NATION). In fact, Streamline are Diamond Dawn with new singer Gabriel Lindmark (from Swedish hotshots WILDNESS), the rest of personnel is the same. Musically Streamline has a Melodic Rock approach with a Classic hard rock flavor. Think modern day Europe, The Night Flight Orchestra, Lucifer's Friend, Black Star Riders and some early '80s Whitesnake. Their debut offers a perfectly blend of Melodic Rock with Classic Rock and the result is timeless, so get a copy asap !

MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST - Resurrection
(CD + DVD, digi pack)

A: 15,5€ B: 18,5 €

MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST showcases the three former MSG-vocalists Gary Barden, Robin McAuley and Graham Bonnet as well as additional guests like Kirk Hammett (g, METALLICA) or Doogie White (v, ex RAINBOW). The two songs “Warrior“ and “Last Supper“ feature all four vocalists and apart from that every singer gets his share of songs. „Resurrection“ is by far the best Schenker output of the last couple of years  - and there have been some really good ones!

MARCO MENDOZA - Viva La Rock

A: 13€ B: 15,5 €

A:13,5€        B:16€

The bass player takes us by surprise with an unexpected solo effort which is really strong. Mendoza (ex THIN LIZZY, ex WHITESNAKE, THE DEAD DAISIES) can sing for sure but Mike Tramp (v, WHITE LION) helps out on “Chinatown“, a THIN LIZZY-like rocker. Towards the end, the songwriting weakens a bit but the majority of the material is really well done. A nice portion of funk is included. It’s groovy all over the place. Viva La Rock!

AXE - Rock’N’Roll Party – The Complete Atco Recordings

A: 15,5€ B: 18,5 €

A bit of a misleading album title which  suggests kind of a best of compilation, but  what you'll get are both mega classic AXE albums "Offering" (1982) and "Memesis" (1983) in full plus the bonus track "Midnight". After their early classics "Axe" (1979) and "Living On The Edge" (1980) on MCA records Bobby Barth & his bunch not only changed labels (Atco records), they also added a healthy dose of guitar power to their classic pomp driven AOR sound. With killer cuts such as "Rock'n'Roll Party In The Street", "Silent Soldiers", "Heat In The Street" or "Eagle Flies Alone" just to name a few you can be sure to get some prime examples of mega classic US melodic (pomp) hard rock of the highest order !

NEW RELEASES IN STOCK !

PHIL LANZON - If You Think I’m Crazy

A: 13€ B: 15,5 €

Obviously with a bit of spare time up his sleeve, Uriah Heep and ex- Grand Prix keyboardist Phil Lanzon has delivered one of the best indie albums of 2017. The result being 'If You Think I'm Crazy', ten tracks of melodic prog that will appeal greatly to melodic rock lovers. I'm sure. Magnum fans listen up, if you're finding Brummie's finest has been lacking of late, then switch over to this album instead. Participants include drummer Craig Blundell (Steven Wilson), guitarist John Mitchell (Arena,It Bites) and keyboardist Richard Cottle (Charlie, Alan Parsons Project). A solid line up of talent, and it shows. I think the most proper way to describe "If You Think I´m Crazy" is Genesis´ "Calling All Stations" album meets Magnum´s "Vigilante".

CORELEONI - The Greatest Hits Part 1

A: 13€ B: 15,5 €

GOTTHARD guitar player Leo Leoni invited some musicians outside his band - with the exception of drummer Hena Habegger - to join him on a journey revisiting part of the GOTTHARD back catalogue. You might question whether this output makes sense or not but the quality of both songs and performance is definitely given. On vocals - which aside of Leoni’s guitar is the most crucial element here - you get none but Ronnie Romero (LORDS OF BLACK, RAINBOW) and he simply delivers! Quo vadis, GOTTHARD?

BURN - Ice Age

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Celebrated UK rockers BURN are back with a new album and some things have changed in the BURN camp during the last decade. Steve Newman has replaced Jeff Odgen and the extremely talented guitarist Chris Green (TYKETTO, PRIDE etc.) takes their music to a higher level. BURN's history started in the heyday of melodic rock in the '80s and from that foundation, through "Global Warning" and now "Ice Age", the band has developed into a modern hard rock act. This is true British Melodic Hard Rock in the vein of TEN / THUNDER inspired by the classic '80s style with a modern, updated, and at places, tremendous production sound (which is not a bis surprise, cause the album has been mixed by the mighty Tobias Lindell).

SAINTED SINNERS - Back With A Vengeance

A: 13,5€ B: 16 €

David Reece (v, ex ACCEPT, BANGALORE CHOIR) and his former BONFIRE-sidekick Frank Pané easily catch up with their 2017 self-titled debut. That means bluesy and classic rock-infused sounds which have heart and soul are all over the place. And the production is warm and authentic. You should have an eye on those guys, not only but especially when it comes to live shows. To cut it short: This is real music and a real band.

UNRULY CHILD - Unhinged – Live In Milan (CD + DVD)

A: 14,5€ B: 17,5 €

UNRULY CHILD play their legendary debut in its entirety at Frontiers Rock Festival 2017 and simply kick ass. Marcie Free provides superb vocals. The sound in general might be slightly polished but it recreates the atmosphere of the gig pretty well and we don’t have to discuss the sheer quality of songs by the likes of “It’s Over“, “On The Rise“ or “Forever“, do we? Melodic Rock at its best! Period!

REVERTIGO - ReVertigo

A: 13€ B: 15,5 €

Slightly modern sounding rock full of energy and passion. But it’s well-known protagonists like Mats Levén (v, ex  CANDLEMASS, ex THERION) oder Anders Wikström (g, TREAT) being in charge here. An exciting record but to a certain degree rather unusual for Frontiers Records. Check out the cool “Hoodwinked“ or the dynamic “False Flag“. There are little ECLIPSE moments as well.

SIGNAL RED - Under The Radar

A: 12,5€ B: 15 €

SIGNAL RED is a brand new band from the UK featuring two very respected musicians namely guitarist Steve Grocott (TEN) and vocalist Lee Small (PHENOMENA, SHY, LIONHEARTt). “Under The Radar“ is typical British melodic and hard rock pleasing fans of the likes of NEWMAN, HEARTLAND or TEN for sure. Amazing songs like the highly melodic “Emotions In Motion“ or the AOR gem “Making Contact“ should easily convince listeners.

DUKES OF THE ORIENT - Dukes Of The Orient

A: 13€ B: 15,5 €

Finest progressive rock in the vein of YES or ASIA written and performed by veterans John Payne (v, ex ASIA, GPS) and Erik Norlander (keys, LAST IN LINE, LANA LANE). Definitely not surprising given the fact that DUKES OF THE ORIENT are basically an alternative incarnation of ASIA. Eight songs full of magic moments. For example the final long track “Give Another Reason“ concentrating all the band’s qualities in about ten minutes.

SHIRAZ LANE - Carnival Days

A: 13€ B: 15,5 €

The second SHIRAZ LANE album is surprisingly more poppy than the debut for the most part. “Carnival Days“, which is full of great melodies, distinguishes itself from the well-received but rather hard and poser rock infused first record because of its glam attitude but does certainly not deny lots popish elements. Nevertheless, fans of the debut should give it a spin first but the well-crafted songwriting and a quite powerful production speak for themselves.

ANIMAL DRIVE - Bite!

A: 13€ B: 15,5 €

Already the first few moments of “Bite!“ take no prisoners. It’s hard, melodic and raw. The band from Croatia rock through these eleven tracks like there is no tomorrow. ANIMAL DRIVE is a highly interesting new band you better keep an eye on. Frontman and main songwriter Dino Jelusic (TRANS SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA) and the guys combine the best of SKID ROW, (harder) WHITESNAKE and a little bit of (metallic) DREAM THEATER to create a really cool mix.

CHRIS BAY - Chasing The Sun

A: 13,5 € B: 16 €

FREEDOM CALL frontman CHRIS BAY surprises with his first ever solo album. If you’re not into BAY’s main band, “Chasing The Sun“ might as well not be your cup of tea. It’s at times modern sounding, slightly popish but always positive and kicking ass. The ten tracks - although mostly being quite kitschy - make you simply feel good. That’s what music should be about, isn’t it? Without question, the highlight is the melodic „Radio Starlight“.

IGNORE THE SIGN - A Line To Cross (digi pack)

A: 13,5 € B: 16 €

“A Line To Cross“ is a cool rock album with timeless material played by an experienced bunch of musicians proving all sorts of influences. Let it be for example Ossy Pfeiffer (v), Steve Mann (g, MICHAEL SCHENKER, LIONHEART) or Lars Lehmann (b, JON ULI ROTH), everybody involved took his share in the songwriting. The songs mostly being classic rock. IGNORE THE SIGN definitely shouldn’t be ignored. Great piece of music!

SEBASTIEN - Act Of Creation (digi pack)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Czech band SEBASTIEN present their album number three and its power metal comes with strong melodies all over the place but with different stylistic shades. You get quite contemporary and hard tracks like “Act Of Creation“ or “No Destination“ as well as ballads (“Queen From The Stars“) or an epic tune like “My Empire“. There’s the whole range of the genre showcased here. SEBASTIEN deliver their best and most versatile record so far.

SQUEALER - Behind Closed Doors

A: 12,5€ B: 15 €

After an almost ten-year-long hiatus - at least in terms of releases - German power metal outfit with their characteristic thrash elements put out a remarkable new album. Versatile, hard and melodic, “Behind Closed Doors“ is the best effort so far. New frontman Sebastian Werner does a great job and similar to the powerful production, everything falls into place, everything from songwriting to arrangements or the artwork. SQUEALER is finally back!

SPECIAL OFFERS!

CARE OF NIGHT - Connected

A: 7,5 € B: 9,5 €

Classic AOR from Sweden never dies! Every few months a new band from the north is about to continue the legacy of bands like ALIEN or BAD HABIT. Latest hopefuls are CARE OF NIGHT who arised from the Metal band SEVEN TEARS. Their debut was produced by Anders and Erik Wigelius (WIGELIUS) and even though it’s not overly original or challenging, it features many strong melodies, high dynamics and some recognition value. Songs like the up-tempo opener “Cassandra”, the impulsive “Those Words”, the saxophone accompanied “Dividing Lines”, the subdued “Unify” or the the more than 7 minute long opus “Say You Will” are like a Ferrero Rocher: You already know what it’s gonna taste like, but it’s always a pleasure! In other words: If you like the description “WORK OF ART meets HOUSTON meets STREET TALK”, then add CARE OF NIGHT’s “Connected” to your order form!

COLD CHISEL - The Perfect Crime

A: 7,5 € B: 9,5 €

Pioneers of the Australian rock scene, COLD CHISEL are here to prove that they’ve still got it with their new album "The Perfect Crime". The album sees the balance of hearty tunes that are full of driven guitars, and slower songs that feature much more piano and a snappy beat. Although "The Perfect Crime" might not be ‘The Perfect Album’ it does have many redeeming qualities and some finely crafted pub rock that can appeal to everyone. It’s mainly full of impressive lyrics that are elevated to new levels of grit and power by the strong backing vocals. It’s a bit rock, a bit jazz and it’s got some elements you wouldn’t expect from Cold Chisel, but Jimmy Barnes certainly owns it.
