AOR HEAVEN ::: N E W S L E T T E R ::: 26/06/2020

Howdy melodic rockers,

The silence is over and I'm pretty sure that a lot of you are waiting for the next bunch of the lost U.K. / U.S. jewels series and we should get them hopefully by mid of next week.

On top and a bit out of the blue French re-issue label Bad Reputation has the next cracker on offer - the digitally remastered re-issue of the 2nd Lion album "Trouble In Angel City" with the 6 bonus tracks from the "Powerlove" Ep.

Last but not least our summer sale will start over the weekend - happy shopping !!

Have a great week

Georg & Monika

TUPLE - Wooden Box

A: 11 € B: 13 €

Finnish vocalist Tommi „Tuple“ Salmela (TAROT, LAZY BONEZ) puts out his first ever solo effort. It’s a kind of concept album dealing with his life. Musically, you get melodic hard rock with a huge amount of poppy AOR which means tons of keyboards and, of course, strong hooklines. “Wooden Box“ is well-produced and offers different approaches stylistically. Some songs are rather epic and others rock like hell. The sugar sweet “Fucking Beautiful“ or the exciting “Kryptonite“ are the perfect starters into the world of TUPLE. A strong melodic output by an artist who experienced a lot along the way and does not hesitate to share his inner soul with the rest of the world. Music is a great therapy, for sure.

A: 11 € B: 13 €

“King Of Hearts“ is the debut of 22-year-old (!) Swede Christian Rosander who obviously got a great early musical education as nowadays probably not many youngsters write and record songs in the finest TOTO or Westcoast fashion. The guitar player and singer recorded everything except bass on his own. P-O- Sedin (PERFECT PLAN) took over bass duties. In terms of songwriting it’s high quality without hardly a single weak spot. Who says that today’s youngsters have no taste in music? Well, reconsider your thoughts!

LION - Trouble In Angel City +6 (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Lion were an American hard rock band, best known for their theme song from the 1986 animated movie "The Transformers". They were formed in LA in 1983 after ex-Tytan vocalist Kal Swan relocated from Great Britain and teamed up with drummer Mark Edwards and they also recruited guitarist Doug Aldrich (who later joyned Hurricane and Whitesnake). In 1986 Lion released a 6 track EP "Power Love" in Japan only (which is enclosed here as a bonus), followed by their debut "Dangerous Attraction" (1987). "Trouble In Angel City" (1989) was their final release - a superb slice of classic US hard rock from start to finish and one of the strongest releases of 1989. Digitally remastered re-issue from Bad Reputation.

SINNOCENCE - State Of Grace +2 (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Put together in 1989 in Union County, and playing throughout the New York and New Jersey club scene, SINNOCENCE garnered a reputation as a band of some repute. Recorded at “Jungle Studios” in Union, NJ, and released in 1993 (probably the worst timing ever, with Grunge sweeping the nation), „State Of Grace“ is a great independent release, a cult classic that should have done so much more for this band of talented musicians. The album has been remixed from the original master-reels with the addition of 2 bonus tracks and remastered for a really awesome result! Classic US hard- and melodic rock stuff next to  BATON ROUGE, WHITE LION & DANGER DANGER. Lost US jewels series, strictly limited to 500 copies.

VALENTINO - Valentino (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

VALENTINO was formed in London, during 1986, by 4 Italian musicians who moved to England from a small town in southern Italy.  Influenced by bands such as KISS, Aerosmith, Icon, Black’n’Blue and TKO, the band thru’ the late ‘80s played intensively the UK club-scene, including a packed “Marquee Club” gig as their career highlight.  They also managed to have some professional recordings between 1986 until 1990. Unfortunately the band disbanded in 1991 due to lack of a proper record-deal. The entire recordings have been carefully remastered as  Vol. 20 of the critically acclaimed Lost U.K. jewels series, strictly limited to 500 copies. Great hair metal stuff  in the vein of early Motley Crue, Pretty Boy Floyd, Poison.

ANDREE THEANDER - The Peculiar Present

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

Swedish guitar player (and only recently also singer) ANDRÉE THEANDER puts out a first solo effort after two albums with the band THE THEANDER EXPRESSION where he was the mainman, too. This time we get less keyboard pomp but authentic, well-crafted rock with little slices of pop, singer/songwriter sounds or even classic rock. Just check out the easy-going “What’s It Like To Cover“ or the extremely catchy “Mr.Mastermind“. It’s quality music.

CHINA - Sign In The Sky +10 (2 CDs, digitally remastered)

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

With a major label behind, Swiss hard rockers China flew to NY to record their 2nd album with Stephan Galfas (Cher, Meat Loaf, Stryper) producing & mixing it at the legendary Electric Lady Studios. “Sign In The Sky” (1989) is all about US Melodic Hard Rock with AOR touches: sharp clean guitar riffs, tons of harmony vocals, a bombastic rhythm section, slashes of synths, and powerhouse clean lead vocals by singer Patrick Mason. I think that’s enough: if you never heard China’s “Sign In The Sky” then you’re missing a cracker. Put this baby besides Black ‘N Blue’s "Nasty Nasty", Treat’s "Organized Crime", Hurricane’s "Slave To The Thrill", etc. Digitally remastered re-issue from Bad Reputation records incl. 10 bonus tracks.

ROYAL COURT OF CHINA - Geared And Primed +2
(digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Nashville's Royal Court of China (formerly known as the Enemy) play it hot and sloppy on their independent-label debut, a vivacious seven-song mini-album released in 1986. This led to a contract with A&M Records and the release of their selftitled album in 1987, but with Robert Logue and Oscar Rice’s penchant for a folkier sound, the album tended more towards R.E.M. in style. Both left the band after poor sales of the album and the founding members Chris Mekow and Joe Blanton changed the style of the follow up album "Geared And Prime" (1989) under the guidance of producer Vic Maile (Motörhead, Victory) to a much harder edged sound. Digitally remastered re-issue from Bad Reputation records.

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Third album by beautiful Finnish singer JESSICA WOLFF stretches out into more modern territory for the most part, is heavier and therefore simply different than „Grounded“ (2015). But the great melodies are still around and, of course, it’s all about the voice. Guitars are darker, though. “Para Dice“ is not a bad effort but old fans should definitely give it a spin and check out tracks like “Perfect Kind Of Wrong“ oder “Super Hero“ first.

KEN TAMPLIN - An Axe To Grind +3 (digitally remastered)

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

"An Axe To Grind" (1990) is listed as Ken Tamplin & Friends, as there are studio appearances by Lanny Cordola, Ken Mary (House Of Lords), Joey Tafolla (Jag Panzer) and Mark St. John of KISS, to name a few. Impressive by itself, yes? The music itself is diverse enough to make this more than just another hair metal album: acoustic fretwork, straight-up blues guitar, and even a jazz composition factor in here, all showcasing Tamplin’s wide musical range. Of course, the trademark heavier stuff on here are at center stage, and they’re some of the best stuff I’ve heard from that era. The production is top-notch, the musicianship is phenomenal, and Tamplin’s voice is at his peak here. Digitally remastered re-issue incl. 3 bonus tracks.
