AOR HEAVEN RELEASES!

CODE RED - Incendiary

A: 11 € B: 13 €

Eternal Pretender (Edit)

I  Won't Be Your Hero (Edit)

Lift Me Up (Edit)

Swedish outfit CODE RED and their pure AOR are fantastic. “Incendiary“ is a true treat for lovers of keyboard-driven sounds full of melody. Frontman Ulrick Lönnquist (SAHARA) and Morgan Jensen (SWEDISH EROTICA) on guitar as well as Michael Palace (PALACE) on bass and Daniel Flores (THE MURDER OF MY SWEET, FIND ME), who also produced the record, on drums create a mighty set of fireworks. You get ten hookline monsters making every fan of the genre smile constantly. For instance songs like “I Won’t Be Your Hero“, “Heat Of The Night“ oder “Saving Grace“ immediately find their way into your ear canals and refuse to ever leave again. “Incendiary“, without doubt, is the AOR record of the year!

MIDNITE CITY - Midnite City

A: 11 € B: 13 €

Nothing's Like Loosing You (Edit)

Summer Of You Lives (Edit)

We Belong (Edit)

MIDNITE CITY is a new English band led by Rob Wylde (ex TEENAGE CASKET COMPANY), who also fronts TIGERTAILZ for some time now. Their self-titled debut contains eleven melodic rock tracks with a slice of AOR and sleaze rock each. Among powerful tracks such as “We Belong“ or “I Just Can’t Take It“, midtempo tracks like “Summer Of Our Lives“ or „Nothing’s Like Losing You“, you find a beautiful ballad (“Everything You Meant To Me“) reminiscent of the glorious MTV-era. These days, England seems to compete with Sweden in terms of melodic rock music quite well. Sounds pretty much like a blend of WINGER, WHITE WIDDOW, H.E.A.T. and CRAZY LIXX. Produced by Pete Newdeck ( ex EDEN’s CURSE) who also plays the drums. A cracker !

EXPECTED NEW RELEASES!

THE RADIO SUN - Unstoppable

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Probably Australia’s best melodic rock/AOR band THE RADIO SUN underlines their status with „Unstoppable“. Eleven tracks to make you smile. “Surrender Your Heart“ or “Unstoppable“ take you by storm. Close to perfect material for lovers of e.g. DANGER DANGER, CHEAP TRICK or ROXUS. Only vocalist Jason Old is responsible for a minor drawback of the rating. Once again produced by Paul Laine (DARK HORSE).

GYPSY SOUL - Winners And Loosers

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

GYPSY SOUL contains 14 tracks compiled from a short-lived collaboration of JK Northrup (g, KING KOBRA), Johnny Edwards (v, FOREIGNER), Larry Hart (b) and Glenn Hicks (d). Back then brought together and produced by Ronnie Montrose, GYPSY SOUL didn’t work out commercially due to many reasons. Influences go from  BAD COMPANY over WHITESNAKE to HUMBLE PIE. They’re way too good to be forgotten.

POWER QUEST - Sixth Dimension

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

British power metal band POWER QUEST like their fellow countrymen DRAGONFORCE play themselves from one speed record to another but definitely don’t forget great melodies and diverse arrangements. Ashley Edison, the new vocalist is one hell of a singer and together with huge choirs „Sixth Dimension“ turns out to be fantastic. Let alone the two anthems “Kings And Glory“ and “No More Heroes“ justify the purchase - and the rest is all but inferior.

OZ - Transition State

A: 13,5 € B: 16 €

Traditional metal from up north, Finnland to be precise. “Transition State“ rocks and exactly provides what fans would expect from cult metal band OZ. “Drag You To Hell“ for instance sounds like PRAYING MANTIS on speed. The first full new album since 1991 proves the band being in great shape. Mark Ruffneck, only remaining original member, and the guys are a welcome enrichment to the scene because they rock!

SECTION A - Wall Of Silence

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

The latest SECTION A album from 2016 sees the light of day again. Finest progressive metal with versatile song structures and a very powerful production. At times pretty playful and complex but mostly melodic, this album certainly needs one or two spins more to fully work. Mastermind Torben Enevoldsen (FATE, ACACIA AVENUE) is pretty multi-talented. The Dane puts out his best effort so far.

BLACK PAISLEY - Late Bloomer

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

“Late Bloomer“ is a remarkable mixture of classic rock and (modern) country. The Swedish five-piece is able to showcase great songs without any unnecessary elements. Frontman Stefan Blomqvist makes you become goosebumps for the most part. Just take the semi-ballad “Easy“ or the cool “Ordinary Man“, which crawls out of the speakers right in your face, as reference. The final and ballad-like “Coming Home“ is a real treat, too. BLACK PAISLEY is a name to be remembered for sure.

TARGET - In Range (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Target will be of interest to melodic rock fans as the band featured future Cobra/Survivor vocalist Jimi Jamison, who sadly died back in 2014. This was planned to be Target’s third album and was recorded in 1979 with the aforementioned Jamison joined by Tommy Cathey (bass/vocals), guitarists Paul Cannon and Buddy Davis, plus drummer Bill Marshall. It is an album very much of its time, being in the main 70′s US/Canadian hard rock similar to bands like Triumph and even Boston on the hard rocking ‘Taxman’, easily the stand out song on the album. With sleeve notes by the highly knowledgeable Dave Reynolds, it is good to see this early piece of Jimi Jamison’s career get a proper release.

GOWAN - Gowan (digitally remastered)

A: 13,5 € B: 16 €

By 1982 Scottish born singer Larry Gowan had been signed to CBS Canada for a multi-album solo record deal. The demos were reworked and a 'band' brought in, including the recently unemployed Kim Mitchell of Max Webster fame, to perform Gowan's newest commercial pop record. Gone were the 12 minute opuses of Rhinegold's past and instead offered 4 minute pop ditties heavy on the Saga keyboard bent. Artwork was supplied by award winning graphic artist Hugh Syme (Klaatu, Rush) and the album spawned two medium charting singles "Give In" and "Keep Up The Fight" (which also became a video). The album floundered into immediate obscurity and Gowan found himself without a direction.

MARC JORDAN - Blue Desert
(LP mini sleeve, digitally remastered)

A: 11 € B: 13 €

A real classic of the West Coast genre, impeccably produced by Jay Graydon.  Lots of electric piano and melodic hooks.  Although all the tunes were written by Marc Jordan, the Jay Graydon production immediately brings to mind Al Jarreau albums like "Breakin' Away" and "Jareau". Feat. ace cats such as Dean Parks, Michael Omartian or Abe Laboriel the backing musicians also include saxophonist Ernie Watts as well as members of Toto, such as Steve Lukather, Jeff Pocaro and Bobby Kimball.  All that and the whole is still greater than the sum of its parts. Overall an instant classic for west coast lovers into Steve Kipner's "Knock The Walls Down", Pages and Bill Champlin's "Runaway".

NEW RELEASES IN STOCK!

PHANTOM 5 - Play II Win

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

The collaboration between Michael Voss (g, e.g. CASANOVA, MAD MAX), Claus Lessmann (v, ex BONFIRE) and Robby Böbel (FRONTLINE) puts out their sophomore album. Finest melodic hard rock from Germany including above average songwriting and an earthly production. From powerful hard rockers (“Crossfire“ oder “Baptized“) over ballads (“Do You Believe In Love“) to slightly pop-like songs (“Reach Out“), you get it all. Now it’s about time to present this strong set of material on stage, guys!

REVOLUTION SAINTS - Light In The Dark + DVD (digi pack)

A: 14,5 € B: 17,5 €

They often sound like JOURNEY and the like at times which goes back to the personal involved. With Jack Blades (b/v, NIGHT RANGER), Doug Aldrich (g, ex WHITESNAKE, THE DEAD DAISIES) and Deen Castronovo (ex JOURNEY, BAD ENGLISH) you can’t go wrong. Once again the songs have been mostly penned down by Alessandro Del Vecchio (key, HARDLINE) but this time the three main protagonists obviously did have more influence. An album to enjoy and wonder about the great talent involved!

BIGFOOT - Bigfoot

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

If this young band from England doesn’t make it right away, things go terribly wrong. For fans of INGLORIOUS, early DEEP PURPLE or LED ZEPPELIN. Powerful, energetic and with strong production, “Bigfoot“ play honest music that should take you by storm. “The Fear“ and it’s monster groove is only one example for the quality of he songs. These five guys show enormous potential and are able to leave their footprint with their debut already.

ROBIN BECK - Love Is Coming

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

The songwriting is as good as always but probably the production might not be everybody’s taste this time, being quite unusual, almost modern. ROBIN BECK’s voice is still magic, especially on more quiet tracks like “In These Eyes“ or “If Only You Knew“ whereas „Me Just Being Me“ on the one hand sounds pretty much like SHANIA TWAIN while on the other hand „Lost“ probably marks an effort to sound more contemporary.

L.A. GUNS - The Missing Piece

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

Hairspray/sleaze rock from the US. Maybe one or two killer tracks are missing on the new album which marks a kind of resurgence for the band. L.A. GUNS supporters will nevertheless dig „The Missing Peace“ for sure, let alone the charismatic voice of Phil Lewis shine. Among typical rockers, the band surprises with some slow and emotional songs as well (e.g. “Christine“). And Tracci Guns can play guitar for sure. But all in all, the album cannot fully ignite.

RONNIE MONTROSE - 10 x 10 (digi pack)

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

Before his death in 2012, American rock guitarist RONNIE MONTROSE began recording an ambitious passion project with bassist Ricky Phillips (Bad English) and drummer Eric Singer (Kiss). The idea was to record 10 songs with 10 different singers and call the album "10x10". Sadly, Montrose was unable to see the album through during his lifetime. Instead, Phillips made it his mission to finish the songs by enlisting a small army of Ronnie’s musician friends to record the vocals and the guitar solos for each track. With contributions from Sammy Hagar, Steve Lukather, Joe Bonamassa, Phil Collen, Glenn Hughes, Gregg Rolie, Eric Martin, Dave Meniketti, Tommy Shaw, Larry Gowan und many more you can be sure to get a great album.

TYKETTO - Live From Milan (CD + DVD)

A: 14,5 € B: 18,5 €

First ever official live recording of melodic rockers TYKETTO and recorded at a very prestigious place and time, the Frontiers Rock Festival 2017 in Milan, Italy features the complete „Don’t Come Easy“ album plus a couple of recent tracks like the amazing „Reach“. Great sound, a devoted crowd singing all along and a band that absolutely delivers and enjoys what they are doing - you can’t ask for much more. Amazing release!

UFO - The Salentino Cuts

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

British rock legends UFO offer up their first ever covers album paying homage to a dozen of their personal favorites! “The Salentino Cuts” includes several unexpected choices such as Mad Seasons's “River Of Deceit,” John Mellencamp's “Paper In Fire,” and Bill Withers' “Ain't No Sunshine” alongside more traditional but nonetheless thrilling versions such as The Yardbirds' “Heartful Of Soul,” ZZ Top's “Just Got Paid”, Montrose’s „Rock Candy“ and lots more! It’s a common thing with cover albums that some tracks work so much better than others, yes there are some strange choices but you’ll get that with any such album. It does sound like they had a lot of fun doing it.

SPECIAL OFFERS !!

CHANGE OF HEART - Last Tiger

A: 7 € B: 8,5 €

Back in In 1998 North East Melodic Rock band Change of Heart released their selftitled debut, followed two years later by their 2nd album "Continuum" and the 2005 released "Truth Or Dare". I really thought the band called it a day, but after a hiatus of almost eleven years singer / band leader Alan Clarke has found some new members and Change Of Heart are back in the saddle. Musically, Change Of Heart are still a heavy-handed AOR outfit, that straddle the fence between commercial and hard rock aggression. A mix of Ten, Magnum, and FM is where this lot are at, and keeping the sound very British if I may so, which to these ears might be a slight impediment. A really strong comeback from this classic British band.

LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM - In Disguise

A: 7 € B: 8,5 €

Swedish band LAST AUTUMN'S DREAM, the brainchild of Mikael Erlandsson, has had lots of cover versions of their respective influences on their thirteen albums so far. So a pure tribute album makes totally sense. Songs by STREETS, KISS, LOVERBOY or even ABBA are respectfully revisited but not without adding a bit of an own flavour. The pleasant voice of Erlandsson alone is worth listening. Thumbs up!
