Howdy melodic rockers,
The deed is almost done as there are
just 4 more days to go until we'll close for our
vacations (22nd of December until January the 7th).
Meanwhile things have pretty much cooled down, I'm also
dealing with a massive flu since a few days, so there is
really a need for me to relax due next.
BTW - we'll already get tickets for
H.e.a.t. festival 2018 today, they should be available
at our website due later today. Bands confirmed so far
incl. STATE OF ROCK (feat. Tony Mills and Robby Böbel),

Melodic rockers DANTE FOX revisit the best ten tracks of their first two albums “Under Suspicion“ (1996) and “The Fire Within“ (1999) here and re-work them from ground-up. Vocalist Sue Willetts sounds better than ever and her unique voice needs no introduction for sure. The British outfit manages to preserve the nature of the original versions and incorporate new facets at the same time. Band classics like “Firing My Heart“, “Under The City Lights“ oder “Lost And Lonely Heart“ resurface in a highly polished and energetic way. “Lonely“ is a diverse and catchy song, too, and nothing but a true gem. “Six String Revolver“ is both a perfect introduction to the melodic world of DANTE FOX and an amazing in-between for their upcoming new studio effort scheduled for 2018. Thumbs up!

The Swedish band WILDNESS was formed in 2013 and after the release of two singles they got signed by AOR Heaven. So the wait is finally over cause Wildness proudly present their debut album (with Erik Wigelius who handles the mixing and the mastering). "War Inside My Head" kicks-off this debut in such an amazing way! A fistful and ass-kickin' hard rock gem that takes no prisoners! This one will be loved by the Eclipse fans as well! After the breathtaking opener comes the next highlight of the new opus; "Stranger" is yet another killer melodic hard rock track that includes powerful vocals, crunchy guitars and a chorus line to die for. With "Shadowland", the key-driven "Alibi" and "Collide" you'll get a strong dose of some excellent melodic heavy rock stuff at its best. Every song features every little thing that we love from this kinda of music. Overall, this is a great debut all the way!! It includes the best elements from the Scandinavian Melodic Hard Rock scene and also a strong dose of the late 80's melodic rock sound and the result is simply breathtaking. Easily one of the top releases of 2017!!! |

But these aren’t any old demos, these are still of the highest quality and represent a rare insight into the recording process all artists go through.

“Raintimes“ is the brainchild of Pierpaolo “Zorro“ Monti (dr, CHARMING GRACE, SHINING LANE) and Davide “Dave Rox“ Barbieri (keys, WHEELS OF FIRE). It’s pretty obvious that pure AOR with clean guitars, mighty keyboards and fluffy arrangements is the aim here, resulting in great vocals and amazing melodies. Singer Michael Shotton (VON GROOVE) is the perfect choice for the songs and provides lots of moments reminiscent of the legendary THE STORM.

The two former GIUFFRIA-musicians David Glen Eisley (v) and Craig Goldy (g, DIO) exactly offer what you would expect given their common past. And that’s typical American AOR with a huge portion of hard rock like provided by the (too) short-lived institution by the name of GIUFFRIA. The mighty Ron Wikso (THE STORM, FOREIGNER) sits behind the drums. AOR with balls! “Blood, Guts and Games“ is one hell of an album. Find proof of this thesis in e.g. “The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter“, “Love Of The Game“ or “Soul Of Madness“.

JONO - Life

There are slices of QUEEN, KANSAS and even DREAM THEATER in the sound of Swedish outfit JONO. Symphonic and quite progressive rock with quite a portion of melodic rock, too. An album not getting boring whatsoever. The songs, rocking like “Crown“ or emotional and rather slow like “The March“, are quite versatile and nothing but absolutely exciting. JONO is a unique band all the way through.

A live document of a remarkable side-project by Joe Elliot (v, DEF LEPPARD) which showcases the quality of both the band (THE QUIREBOYS) and MOOT THE HOOPLE, the artist entirely dealt with here. It’s a packed double-decker with a DVD featuring the whole concert. You get classic rock with a slice of honky tonk and lots of magical moments. Recorded in Sheffield, UK in 2014, these sixteen tracks are simply amazing. This is one of the highlights this year for sure.

The sound of bands like TRIXTER, RATT or WARRANT, the sound of the legendary Sunset Strip, that’s what you get with this four-piece. Guitarist Kristy Majors and the guys know their territory and provide songs that are often better than recent material of the competitors mentioned. The sound and production could have been a bit more powerful but still it’s a good one. Also highly suitable for both fans POISON and MÖTLEY CRÜE, of course.

The triology, which started with “The Key“ and “Resurrection“, comes to an end with “A New Reality“. Well-crafted musically, last but not least because of the (still) fantastic voice of mainman Geoff Tate, formerly of QUEENSRYCHE. But like the first two records his highly ambitious and progressive piece of work can not fully meet the expectations. It’s complex and detailled but not convincing all the way through.

My Re-Generation“ (2011) was the first life-sign of this very special collaboration of DEF LEPPARD-frontman Joe Elliot and THE QUIREBOYS, being his backing band here, who focus on MOTT THE HOOPLE-related stuff only including IAN HUNTER or BRITISH LIONS material, of course. It provides beautiful versions of many classics like e.g. “Storm“. Re-issued on Frontiers Records these days. A true gem for classic rock lovers!
