AOR HEAVEN ::: N E W S L E T T E R ::: 09/02/2018

Howdy melodic rockers,

Business has been really slow during the last few weeks which is pretty much state of art at the first couple of weeks in the new year, but things should get better starting by next week.

I’m pretty sure that AOR lovers can’t wait to get their hands on the next bunch of the Lost UK Jewels series – we do expect SWEET SIN and WINTERS REIGN by Wednesday / Thursday next week.

Also our February release from JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA should be in stock by next Monday and the re-issued THE SNAKES album feat. the young Jorn Lande should also arrive sometimes next week.

Listen to our upcoming March 2018  release from JARI TIURA at www.metalheaven.net !

Have a great week

Georg & Monika

AOR HEAVEN RELEASES!

JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA - Age Of Discovery

A: 11 € B: 13 €

Falling (Edit)

Fear (Edit)

The End Of The Road (Edit)

JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA „Age Of Discovery“, the follow-up to the three IMPERA albums, is a fine selection of hard and classic rock with a great variety of vocalists. Among others you get Michael Sadler (SAGA), Nigel Bailey (THREE LIONS, BAILEY, LIFELINE), Göran Edman (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) or Nils Patrik Johansson (ASTRAL DOORS, LION’S SHARE). The Swedes, foremost Kihlberg and guitarist and co-producer Lars Criss (LION’S SHARE), made clever choices in picking the right voices for their songs. “Why Does She Care“, sung by Michael Sadler himself, is classic SAGA or “Just A Conversation“ with the mighty Göran Edman behind the mic delivers some great eighties feeling because of its poppy flavor. Apart from those highlights, “Age Of Discovery“ is totally free from fillers of any kind.

EXPECTED NEW RELEASES!

WINTERS REIGN - The Mini Album (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5€ B: 15 €

This is another great pick from the "Lost UK Jewels" series cause the Irish based outfit WINTERS REIGN released two great albums and a stack of singles during the eighties. They released in 1985 their fulllength debut, called the “Mini Album”, recorded over the course of a year in 3

different studios. The album is a wonderful AOR affair, very much of its time with anthemic keyboard driven AOR stuff in the vein of TOBRUK, AIRRACE or FM. With the addition of 8 unreleased bonus tracks from from their postWinters Reign outfits Touchdown and The Foundation this is a must have for every AOR collector. First time ever on CD, digitally remastered incl. liner notes by Rob Evans and strictly limited to 500 copies !

SWEET SIN - Sweet Sin (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5€ B: 15 €

The next round of the "Lost UK Jewels" series sees Preston based SWEET SIN were a product of the very vibrant North West music scene in the ‘80s, a scene that saw the likes of Dare, Angels Or Kings, etc. all vying for attention and that elusive deal. Undeterred by lack of label interest, SWEET SIN decided to selfrelease their own album in 1988: seven tracks of smouldering HardRock in the vein of Dokken, Ratt and Whitesnake. With the album having run its course, they decided during 1990 to enter the Studios once again and cut another great demo. But it wasn’t to be and the band came to a natural end. First time ever on CD, digitally remastered incl. liner notes by Rob Evans and strictly limited to 500 copies !

THE SNAKES - Live In Europe

A: 13,5€ B: 16 €

Before the British - Norwegian outfit got signed by a Japanese label for their studio debut "Once Bitten" in 1998 they played  a couple of shows in Norway under the banner of "A Night Of Whitesnake". Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden got joyned by their friends Neil Murray and Don Airey besides the young Jorn Lande. The Japanese record company decided to release a live recording containing only stuff from the classic Whitesnake era with Moody and Marsden just a few weeks after the studio album "Once Bitten". The result was simply breathtaking, cause all the early Whitesnake classics got played with power and passion and Jorn Lande's vocals are on par with the young David Coverdale.

THE SNAKES - Once Bitten

A: 13,5€ B: 16 €

During the mid 90s the former Whitesnake guitarists Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden spent a lot of time in Scandinavia. In Norway TNT guitarist Ronni Le Tekro introduced them to a new a singer called Johnny Lande (which later changed his name to Jorn!). Le Tekro managed to get them a deal with a Japanese label and brought in his TNT band mates Sid Ringsby and Willy Bendiksen to complete the line-up. This is very much a "Whitesnake" back to basics in all but name:- and in many ways greatly succeeds where "Whitesnake" haven't been able to. The icing on the cake are the vocals of the young Jorn Lande - he laid down some really great vocals that sound very similar to David Coverdale.

TOTO - 40 Trips Around The Sun

A: 12€ B: 14,5 €

Toto's brand new greatest hits package titled "40 Trips Around The Sun" contains 17 tracks incl. three previously unreleased recordings: “Spanish Sea” “Alone” and “Struck By Lightning” alongside newly remastered classic tracks worked on by Elliot Scheiner.  The album will be released in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Toto's self-titled debut album (1978). The core Toto members, Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Joseph Williams re-entered the studio earlier this year to work on this release. The band uncovered several unfinished tracks that featured both Jeff and Mike Porcaro, one of which is now “Spanish Sea", which is originally from the "Isolation" sessions.

NEW RELEASES IN STOCK !

VOODOO CIRCLE - Raised On Rock +2 (ltd. edition digi pack)

A: 14,5€ B: 17,5 €

To cut it short: The rating does not refer to originality because VOODOO CIRCLE take the „safe“ path and sound very much like WHITESNAKE all over the place. But like always, what they do, they do best. Having switched the frontman position from David Readman (PINK CREAM 69) to Herbie Langhans (Avantasia, Sinbreed) the band doesn’t lose any of their quality. “Raised On Rock“ is a true statement.

HURRICANE - Over The Edge (digitally remastered)

A: 11€ B: 13 €

After landing a deal with Enigma Records, HURRICANE started work on their first full-length album. With the help of producer Mike Clink (a. o. GUNS N ROSES) the band delivered a shining example for classic US Melodic Rock music in the vein of DOKKEN and LION. “Over The Edge” includes half a dozen of absolute killer songs: “Over The Edge”, “I'm Onto You”, “Messin' With A Hurricane”, “We're Strong”, “Spark In My Heart” and “Shout” impress with great hooks and the sensational vocals by Kelly Hansen. Another great song is the DURAN DURAN influenced “Give Me An Inch”. The eagerly awaited reissue was digitally remastered and is simply a must have buy !  Yesterrock re-issue, digitally remastered.

HURRICANE - Slave To The Thrill (digitally remastered)

A: 11€ B: 13 €

1990's “Slave To The Thrill” was HURRICANE's second regular album for Enigma Records. Prior to the recordings guitarist Robert Sarzo left the band and was replaced by LION guitarist Doug Aldrich. Aldrich's powerful and slightly bluesy guitar playing fitted perfectly with HURRICANE. In view of brilliant songs like “Next To You”, “Don't Wanna Dream”, “In The Fire”, “Let It Slide” and “Lock Me Up” the album is still called one of the best US Melodic Rock albums. The digitally remastered re-issue will please a lot of melodic rock fans, cause the original pressing was nearly impossible to find at a reasonable price within the last few years. Utterly essential for the fans of LION, BAD MOON RISING and LYNCH MOB.

REFUGEE - Burning From The Inside Out
(digitally remastered)

A: 11€ B: 13 €

They started life as the band MICHAEL FURY, before changing their handle to Refugee. Following on from their superb 'Affairs In Babylon' this album could be considered a theme for the subject of love and the fragilty of human relationships. You get this impression when you listen to magic moments like 'Love Survives', 'Lay Me Down', the title track 'Burning From The Inside Out' and the magnificent anthemic 'Power'. All of the songs are listenable, and I for one have put this album on over and over again. This album got initially released on CD in 1987 at very small quantities and became one of the ultimate collectors items of all time. Digitally remastered re-issue from Yesterrock.

SPECIAL OFFERS!

CARE OF NIGHT - Connected

A: 7,5 € B: 9,5 €

Classic AOR from Sweden never dies! Every few months a new band from the north is about to continue the legacy of bands like ALIEN or BAD HABIT. Latest hopefuls are CARE OF NIGHT who arised from the Metal band SEVEN TEARS. Their debut was produced by Anders and Erik Wigelius (WIGELIUS) and even though it’s not overly original or challenging, it features many strong melodies, high dynamics and some recognition value. Songs like the up-tempo opener “Cassandra”, the impulsive “Those Words”, the saxophone accompanied “Dividing Lines”, the subdued “Unify” or the the more than 7 minute long opus “Say You Will” are like a Ferrero Rocher: You already know what it’s gonna taste like, but it’s always a pleasure! In other words: If you like the description “WORK OF ART meets HOUSTON meets STREET TALK”, then add CARE OF NIGHT’s “Connected” to your order form!

COLD CHISEL - The Perfect Crime

A: 7,5 € B: 9,5 €

Pioneers of the Australian rock scene, COLD CHISEL are here to prove that they’ve still got it with their new album "The Perfect Crime". The album sees the balance of hearty tunes that are full of driven guitars, and slower songs that feature much more piano and a snappy beat. Although "The Perfect Crime" might not be ‘The Perfect Album’ it does have many redeeming qualities and some finely crafted pub rock that can appeal to everyone. It’s mainly full of impressive lyrics that are elevated to new levels of grit and power by the strong backing vocals. It’s a bit rock, a bit jazz and it’s got some elements you wouldn’t expect from Cold Chisel, but Jimmy Barnes certainly owns it.
