AOR HEAVEN ::: N E W S L E T T E R ::: 04/10/2019

Howdy melodic rockers,

What a crazy week with many unexpected moves and the whole mess belongs to one company with 3 capital letters - UPS !!

The weirdest thing since I'm in business (and that's almost 25 years) is that they returned the big shipment from Girder Music with the Fighter / Amy Wolter CDs without giving me notice to the US. It should have arrived last Monday (I have paid for express delivery) and now If I'm lucky we should get it today and on top I should pay for shipping twice !!!

This will turn out as a nice fight. On top also the shipment from France with the Bad Reputation releases will take at least 6 business days with standard service - even with a stagecoach it would be quicker delivered !!

Aaaaaargh - and all this mess after my 60th birthday !!!!!

I only hope that my birthday party on Saturday will turn out nicely, the mighty ALIEN from Sweden will play there and I'm sure that it will be big fun !

wishing you a great week

Georg & Monika

AOR HEAVEN RELEASES!

AGE OF REFLECTION - A New Dawn

A: 11 € B: 13 €

The second album of the Swedish outfit is a high flyer by all means. “A New Dawn“ is finest melodic rock/ AOR showcasing superb songwriting, a very powerful production and with Lars Nygren a frontman with an amazing range who made remarkable steps forward compared to the 2017 debut “In The Heat Of The Night“ which was a great album, too, to get it straight. Mix and mastering by Erik Mårtensson (ECLIPSE, W.E.T.). Tracks like “Stay With Me“, “Here I Stand“, the ballad “What If I Break“ or the amazing title song are contenders for the melodic rock Champions League. Additionally, you get a brilliant cover version of the CUTTING CREW hit “I Just Died“. This band will definitely make it!

ROBERT TEPPER - Better Than The Rest

A: 11 € B: 13 €

American vocalist ROBERT TEPPER is eternally connected with the hit “No Easy Way Out“ and a few other soundtrack contributions here and there but there is not much solo output. Nevertheless, “Better Than The Rest“ is easily his best album in more than twenty years, foremost as the guitars are heavier again. (Pop) Rock with slices of AOR and hard rock and a slightly anthem-like character. Alongside Spanish guitar player Pablo Padilla he delivers eleven rock tracks which mostly breathe the eighties DNA but with e.g. “Testimony“ or “Beyond The Atmosphere“ dips into more contemporary waters. ROBERT TEPPER is still able to deliver station rock as the mighty „My Yesterday“ easily proves. Perfectly suitable for fans of BRYAN ADAMS, JOHN FARNHAM or STAN BUSH.

EXPECTED NEW RELEASES !!

ECLIPSE - Paradigm

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

When it says ECLIPSE, you get 100% ECLIPSE. Powerful melodic rock with hook lines out of this world. Already the first single “Viva La Victoria“ is a true gem, as well as the irresistible “Mary Leigh“ which immediately take you by storm. Erik Mårtensson simply is one hell of an institution when it comes to melodic rock. They successfully managed to not to be too repetitive and stuck to their very sound all over the place. Chapeau! A very strong contender for the album of the year!

THE FERRYMEN - A New Evil

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

THE FERRYMEN were a big surprise in 2017 when their debut came out. And they pick it up from there. They, that’s  Ronnie Romero (v, RAINBOW, LORDS OF BLACK), Magnus Karlsson (g, ALLEN/LANDE, PRIMAL FEAR) and Mike Terrana (d, ex-AXEL RUDI PELL, ex,-MASTERPLAN, ex-RAGE). The album sounds exactly like that. You get an amazing set of eleven new hard rock songs performed by exceptional protagonists. Mix by Jacob Hansen (e.g. VOLBEAT)

WAYWARD SONS - The Truth Ain't What It Used To Be

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

Hard rock from the UK with dry, dusty guitars and a great portion of dirt in the vocals is what you get here. Hard to believe that this is only the band’s second effort as the material sounds very confident and casual although not every single track can meet the high songwriting quality of e.g. “Any Other Way“ or “Joke’s On You“. WAYWARD SONS are fronted by Toby JEPSON of former LITTLE ANGELS’ fame who's also plays with GUN and DIO DISCIPLES.

MICHAEL SWEET - Ten

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

According to STYPER-fronter MICHAEL SWEET, “Ten“ follows the path of DIO, JUDAS PRIEST or IRON MAIDEN which is all but wrong, although their outstanding quality is mostly not met here. Of course, “Ten“ offers some references to his main band, too, but this is no surprise. Check out the opener “Better Part Of Me“ but towards the end of the record the level of songwriting of the American vocalist und guitar-player gets somehow weaker.

VANDEN PLAS - The Ghost Xperiment - Awakening

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

VANDEN PLAS, the German progressive rock and metal outfit, offers what they can do best. “The Ghost Xperiment - Awakening“ is a concept album about an actual paranormal experiment about a protagonist with a heavy burden. The ninth effort of the five-piece is full of complex structures that go alongside great melodies and smart, playful details which grow over time. Frontmann Andy Kuntz never sounded that good by the way. Thumbs up! The follow-up “The Ghost Xperiment: IIIumination“ is due in the fall of 2020.

HARDLINE - Double Eclipse +4 (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

With Journey on hiatus and after two albums with Bad English, at the beginning of the ’90s guitar hero Neal Schon joined a new project with talented drummer Deen Castronovo founded by the then relatively unknown vocalist Johnny Gioeli (ex Brunette). The result was “Double Eclipse” (1992), one of the greatest Melodic Hard Rock albums of all time. The style of songs on “Double Eclipse” is quite varied and starts off with an arena rock one such as ‘Life’s a Bitch’ with its gang shouted verses and the fist pumping chorus or the pure melodic rock bliss of the first single "Hot Cherie". This digitally remastered re-issue from Bad Reputation records contains also the killer Japanese bonus track "Love Leads The Way".

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

They recorded their second album "Big Bad Noise" (1989) with producers Peter Blyton and Brian McGee (The Rolling Stones, Cyndi Lauper). The next single "Run to Paradise" reached No. 3 in October and was the 11th highest selling single of the eighties in Australia. BLACKEYED SUSAN - Electric Rattlebone +10
(2 CDs, dig. remastered)

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

"Electric Rattlebone" (1991) was the freshman outing from vocalist Jerod (Dizzy Dean) Davidson upon his departure from Britny Fox. "Blackeyed Susan" also featured Cinderella keyboardist Rick Criniti on guitar. The sound on "Electric Rattlebone" is very bluesy and it shows on songs like “Satisfaction”, “Ride With Me” and “She’s So Fine”. The ballads, “Sympathy” and “Don’t Bring Me Down”, are a nice addition. Musically this album reminds the listener of bands like the Black Crowes and London Quireboys. This band was talented and deserved more recognition; it was just another case of arriving on the rock scene too late. Digitally remastered re-issue from Bad Reputation records incl. a bonus CD with 10 songs.

VENGEANCE - Vengeance +5 (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Dutch hard rock and metal were quite popular during the early to mid 80s with bands like PICTURE, BODINE, HELLOISE, the mighty VANDENBERG and a band called VENGEANCE. They were more a melodic hard rock band but they had some heavy metal songs too, a bit like early 220 VOLT / EUROPE or MAD MAX. Their self titled debut, released in 1984, sees the mighty Arjen Lucassen on guitars besides cult singer and founding member Leon Goewie. This is a hard rock album in the purest form, mixing in the elements of the '80s glam metal scene - like so many albums during this era from Europe. Digitally remastered re-issue from Bad Reputation records incl. 5 bonus tracks.

TORA TORA - Wild America +5 (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Tora Tora was a band out of Memphis, TN that hit the hard rock/metal scene in 1989 with their debut album “Surprise Attack”. The band had a great sound that really kinda of put them outside of the “hair metal” badge that was pinned upon many bands coming out around this time. The best way to describe them would be to take 2 parts Tesla, 1 part Cinderella, 1 part Black Crowes and a dash of Zeppelin. “Wild America” was released in the year of doom for all that was hard rock/metal, 1992. The band showed definite signs of growing up yet the sound that worked so well for them stayed the same and sounded even better. Digitally remastered re-issue from Bad Reputation records incl. 5 bonus tracks.

JACK GREEN - Reverse Logic + bonus CD
(2 CDs, dig. remastered)

A: 13 € B: 15,5 €

Having played with a.o. T.Rex, Pretty Things and Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, guitarist Jack Green embarked on his solo-career in 1980. His second solo-album, 'Reverse Logic', was released in 1981. This CD-reissue of that well received full-length comes with remastered sound and a full disc's worth of bonus material!

NEW RELEASES IN STOCK !

ANGEL - Risen

A: 14 € B: 16,5 €

Joining them in the revamped ANGEL will be the four musicians that backed the duo on tour last year: Danny Farrow on rhythm guitar, Charlie Calv on keyboards, Steve Ojane on bass and Billy Orrico on drums. Founding members Punky Meadows and Frank DiMino roll back the clock to the glory days of melodic metal with 16 brand new compositions and one fantastic re-working of the band's classic song "Tower!" STEEL PANTHER - Heavy Metal Rulez (digi pack)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

“Heavy Metal Rulez“, album number five of hair metal icons and (beware the irony!) prototype-feminists is rather short but kicks ass. “All I Wanna Do Is Fuck (Myself Tonight)“ serves as a blueprint for the rest of the record. Take slippery, eye-twinkling lyrics and a catchy melody as well as every ingredient of eighties hair metal possible like melodic guitar solos and rather simple arrangements, that’s it! You have a STEEL PANTHER song. Nevertheless, the amazing 2009 debut “Feel The Steel“ still remains unrivaled.

ELOY - The Vision, The Sword & The Pyre (pt.2, digi pack)

A: 13,5 € B: 16 €

“The Vision, The Sword & The Pyre (Part 2)“ perfectly connects content-wise and stylistically with the first part of the rock opera dealing with the story of one of the most shining characters of European history. Mastermind Frank Bornemann pulls all strings possible to bring the mighty story of Jean d’Arc to life. Progressive rock at its best - and well-produced - from Germany. Bornemann for sure is no vocalist in the first place, but nevertheless the album sounds complete. Well done!

FIGHTER - Bang The Drum +3 (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Fighter was a Christian power-pop band cut from the same cloth as Petra and White Heart. The Iowa-based group was led by Amy Wolter and the distinctive element in their sound was the trade-off vocals between Amy (likened by critics to Pat Benatar or Patty Smyth of Scandal) and male singer Sean Murphy. More solid than their debut one and leaving,or may i say, addopting to their Melodic Rock/AOR sound a more edgy Hard Rock style of music...the female-male singing duet comprised of Wolter & Murphy still deliver passion to their christian beliefs and makes the album a pleasant one to listen to. Digitally remastered re-issue incl. 3 bonus tracks.

FIGHTER - The Waiting +4 (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

Fighter was a Melodic AOR Christian Rock band based in IOWA and was led by Amy Wolter who was also the principal songwriter. They played arena style rock such as Def Leppard and Journey with hooks and melodies galore. The between Wolter who is similar to Pat Benatar and male singer and drummer Sean Murphy. Their debut "The Waiting" (1991) could easily be described as a fusion between VIXEN and NIGHT RANGER. Although not really heavy enough to be considered metal, they were a great melodic rock / AOR band and had a lot going for them musically and in the songwriting. This band understood that you need a good hook to draw people in. Digitally remastered re-issue incl. 4 bonus tracks.

AMY WOLTER - Hit Me In Your Heart (digitally remastered)

A: 12,5 € B: 15 €

As female lead singer in the Christian rock band Fighter, Amy Wolter has sung in front of thousands. The band was signed to Word label `Wonderland' and released two CD's in the early 90's - `The Waiting' and `Bang the Drum'. Her songwriting skills earned the band several top 10 CCM hits, with `Look Me in the Eye', `Radio Man' and `Alone with You' among them. Amy followed the Fighter records with a solo album, "Hit Me in The Heart" (1994), using several band members from Prince's New Power Generation. Music wise it pretty much followed the paths of the Fighter albums with a distinct mid western rock touch. Digitally remastered re-issue.
