AOR HEAVEN RELEASES:
STEPHEN CRANE - Kicks
(digitally remastered)
|
A: 11 € |
B: 13 € |
|
|
|
STEPHEN CRANE used to play in a band called Baby at the end of the 70’s but his opportunity as solo artist arrived in 1984 by the hand of the major MCA label. CRANE’S debut "Kicks" was produced by Jai Winding (Le Roux) who also played keys, and no-other than the great Steve Lukather. In fact, all TOTO guys were involved in the recording including groove master Jeff Porcaro on drums. We also find Richard Page (Mr. Mister, Pages) and AOR guru Tom Kelly (I-Ten, Van Stephenson, Survivor) doing backing vocals, together with brilliant session guitar players such as Duane Sciacqua, Joey Brasler and Ray Pannell. The multitude of guitarists has an explanation; "Kicks" for the most part is a guitar driven AOR / Melodic Rock album with a 1984's radio friendly sound. And on most tracks, we found three different six-string axemen playing together in the same song. There's not a single weak track here, going from hooky and catchy numbers like "Headed For A Heartbreak", "Joanne" or the urgent "Victims Of Love", to more AORish cuts such as the Toto-esque "Back On My Feet Again" (featuring a killer Lukather solo) and the Van Stephenson sounding "I'll Take Care Of You". Criminally ignored not only by MR / AOR fans in general - but also by the industry as it never was released on CD - "Kicks" is one of the best records in the genre from that era.
Digitally remastered edition incl. liner notes by Dave Reynolds, limited edition of 500 copies. |

PARIS - 50/50
|
A: 11 € |
B: 13 € |

Third album by French AOR outfit PARIS. It pretty much connects with the debut “Only One Life“ (2013) and “The World Outside“ (2016). PARIS consists of the two old friends Frédéric Dechavanne (v/keys) und Sébastien Montet (g). It’s heavily influenced by the eighties, the music the two of them love, but yet sounds fresh and all but old-fashioned in any way. There’s plenty of mature songwriting like tracks like “Ashes To Ashes“, “Surrender“, “Superhero“ or “Game Changer“ easily prove. Obviously, it’s not always Sweden, well, but like on the first two PARIS albums Robert Säll (g, WORK OF ART, W.E.T.) guests on one song. Again, powerfully and pristinely produced by Steve Newman (NEWMAN). Thumbs up!

WINDING ROAD - Winding Road

A: 11 € |
B: 13 € |

Sweden gives us another wonderful pearl of Melodic Hard Rock, the self-titled debut of WINDING ROAD is an almost perfect album for the genre, a record that cannot fail to end up in the collections of AOR and Melodic Rock lovers all over the world. WINDING ROAD is a sensational album, endowed with immediate catchiness, which showcases the excellent artistic maturity of these musicians as well as their undisputed song-writing skills. The songs all have an incredible charge, with captivating refrains and wonderful melodies that bring back to life the spirit of the '80s Arena Rock and the unforgettable atmospheres of bands like Journey, Europe, Def Leppard and Foreigner and they do it absolutely not with nostalgia or as a simple 'revival' but rather in a fresh and modern way in the wake of the best New Melodic Rock bands of the moment worldwide i.e. Eclipse, H.E.A.T, One Desire and a few others.

EXPECTED NEW RELEASES !!
FM - Tought It Out Live (2 CDs)
|
A: 14 € |
B: 16,5 € |
|
|
|
FM put out a pure milestone
in melodic rock in 1989 whose anniversary was celebrated on their 2019 tour and
put out as a live document now. The full album performance is enriched by some
other classics as well as some cherry-picked tracks like “Hollow“ or “Breathe
Fire“ that are rarely performed live making this double-decker with its great
and balanced sound a really good choice both for FM maniacs and newbies.
Frontman Steve Overland still sets the pace vocally in the given genre.

THE TREATMENT - Waiting For Good Luck

A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |

THE TREATMENT were able to
develop from album to album and number five is no exception to this rule. They
are an hardrock institution from the UK these days. Lots of seventies vibes in
the sound of the Britons that is full of energy, groove and fun for sure. And
they definitely never sound old-fashioned, just authentic and raw. Lots of
AC/DC, some THE ANSWER and bits of THE WHO - What an album! It’s pure Rock’nRoll.

CHEAP TRICK - In Another World
|
A: 12,5 € |
B: 15 € |
|
|
|
Produced by longtime associate Julian
Raymond, "In Another World" sees CHEAP TRICK doing what they do better than
anyone — crafting indelible rock 'n' roll with oversized hooks, mischievous
lyrics, and seemingly inexorable energy. Trademark anthems like "Light Up The
Fire" and "Boys & Girls & Rock N Roll" are countered by more introspective — but
no less exuberant — considerations of times past, present, and unknowable future
on such strikingly potent new tracks as "Another World" and "I'll See You Again".
"In Another World" — which marks CHEAP TRICK's first new album since 2017's
double-header of "We're All Alright!" and "Christmas Christmas". Pure class !

INFINITE & DIVINE - Silver Linings

|
INFINITE & DIVINE, that’s
Swedish musician/songwriter/producer Jan Åkesson (STONELAKE) and his female
singer Tezzi aka Terese Persson (EPYSODE) who is also from Sweden. Pretty
melodic and quite contemporary sounding melodic rock with mighty keyboards but
also powerful guitars that highlight the sweet and dreamy but also rocking and
at times aggressive sounding voice of Tezza. Only the artificial sounding drums
dim the light or the very positive impression here a little bit.

SCREAMACHINE - ScreaMachine
|
A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |
|
|
|
This Italian five-piece
seems to have studied ACCEPT, METALLICA, ICED EARTH and JUDAS PRIEST foremost
and offers a remarkable debut. “ScreaMachine“ contains almost no surprises but
very solid songwriting, a powerful production and with Valerio “The Brave”
Caricchio they have a frontman who sings (almost) without accent. There’s also a
little bit of SAVATAGE and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN to be found in the song material.
Melodic metal of the better sort mostly.

SWEET OBLIVION - Relentless
|
A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |
|

|
Geoff Tate (ex QUEENSRYCHE)
sings on the second output of SWEET OBLIVION, too. It’s an Italian project with,
well, of course lots of QUEENSRYCHE vibes. “Relentless“ is, like the debut
“Sweet Oblivion“ (2019) a great piece of music even though the magic of the four
or five first QUEENSRYCHE records can’t be found over the whole distance but
it’s definitely closer to the classics than the original band these days. Check
out “Strong Pressure“ and “Wake Up Call“. Tate did some songwriting for the
first time here and sang one song in Italian! Thumbs up!

THE END MACHINE - Phase 2

A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |

DOKKEN without Don Dokken
(v) but with Robert Mason (v, WARRANT). The second album of this band/project is
typical US hard rock. Pretty solid songwriting but without real “hook-monsters“
whatsoever. A versatile production, cool bass lines by Jeff Pilson (DOKKEN,
FOREIGNER) and a beautiful artwork are positive, though. George Lynch plays
great as always but nevertheless, the magic moments are missing on “Phase2“ for
the most part.

JOHAN KIHLBERG’S IMPERA
- Spirit Of Alchemy (digi pack)
|
A: 13,5 € |
B: 16 € |

Project of Swedish drummer
Johan Kihlberg with yet another record. Melodic metal with great melodies and
quite a collection of guests like John Leven (b, EUROPE), Lars Chriss (g, LION’s
SHARE) or Snowy Shaw (d, ex SABATON, KING DIAMOND) to name only a few. Pristine
and powerful sound and sharp guitars as well as interesting songwriting all over
the place make “Spirit Of Alchemy “ a cool choice for lovers of the genre.

NEW RELEASES IN STOCK!!
MULLETT - The Originals
|
A: 12,5 € |
B: 15 € |
|
|
|
The long lost Eonian records label is
back with a brand new release from MULLETT titled "The Originals". Formed a
decade ago as a tribute band of all ’80s hard rock, hair metal and
glam rock n’ roll culture, MULLETT have been
performing from corporate functions and private parties to college
campuses, theaters, nightclubs and casinos. Now it’s
time for their original songs, hence the title of album. What you would expect
from a band opening their debut CD with a song titled ’80s Girl’? This is pure
fun bringing back the Eighties paraphernalia of Poison,
Bon Jovi, Van Halen, complete with party-ready choruses, cool guitar riffs,
keyboards… and lots of fun and madness !!

KENNY MCGEE - Kenny McGee
|
A: 12,5 € |
B: 15 € |
|
|
|
Singer Kenny McGee gained most of his
initial recognition when he fronted the melodic-rock band Julliet that
eventually attained cult-like status in the Florida club circuit. His self
titled album (2002) is a superb rock album with strong melodies. Kenny McGee has
a unique voice that has kind of a rough edge to it and it is really suitable for
the music he’s playing. This is tailor made for the fans of late 80’s / early
90’s melodic hard rock lovers into Poison / Skid Row / Slaughter with a good
dose of bluesy hard rock in the veon of Tesla / Cinderella. Initially released
in 2002 this is a classy hard rock album which is getting really rare now, son
here's your chance to pick it up at a fair price.

FARCRY - High Gear
|
A: 12,5 € |
B: 15 € |
|
|
|
The
US label Kivel Records had released some outstanding melodic rock releases over
the years (like ADRIAN GALE, GOODBYE THRILL or FAITH CIRCUS) and with the US
five piece FARCRY they had the next clear winner on offer. Backed by a crisp
production their debut “High Gear” (2009) combines the finest moments from
FIREHOUSE, early BON JOVI, the HAREM SCAREM debut and ADRIAN GALE into a superb
melodic rock cocktail, which no serious melodic rock lover can’t resist. Killer
tunes such as “Love Won’t Wait”, “Fine Line” or the mega ballad “Heaven” are
just prime examples for an oustanding debut with plenty of other great tunes on
offer. Killer stuff, don't miss it !

ADRIAN GALE - Feel The Fire
|
A: 12,5 € |
B: 15 € |
|
|
|
Melodic rock “Made in the USA” made a nice comeback way back in the year 2000
when John Kivel started his new label Kivel Records. ADRIAN GALE featured the
vocals of singer extra ordinaire JAMIE ROWE (ex GUARDIAN) and the band proved
that they could be the “next big thing” from the USA. “Feel The Fire” is full of
highlights like the opener “Feel The Fire” which reminds me of a more commercial
CINDERELLA while tracks like “Save Our Love” or “Reep What You Saw” are straight
out of the DAMN YANKEES songbook and the mega ballad “If The Sun” is a dead
ringer for NIGHT RANGERS “Sister Christian". Simply awesome from start to finish
and a must have for every serious melodic rock collector !

ADRIAN GALE - Crunch
|
A: 12,5 € |
B: 15 € |
|
|
|
The
mighty were ADRIAN GALE one of the strongest US Melodic Rock bands of the new
millenium. Their previous album “Re-Program” was a real killer and the same
applies to the follow up “Crunch” (2004). Even though the album rocks not as
straight forward as its predecessor, it features numerous great tracks in the
vein of DANGER DANGER and JAGGED EDGE. My faves are the varied title track, the
ass-kicking up-tempo anthem “Faith”, the beautiful Rock ballad “Without A
Moment's Notice”, the colourful “Long Gone” and the heavily rocking mid-tempo
tune “The Thin Line”. The only weak point is the a bit unnecessary instrumental
“Question”. However, both thumbs up for another great album!
